About the
Pulley
Estate

This estate includes many of the treasures of former Pensacola community
leader and Gulf Power Company president Robert L. Pulley; his wife, Rose
Caldwell Pulley; his sister, Frances Nolan Pulley; and his daughter,
Frances Caldwell Pulley. |
 |
Mr. Pulley came to Pensacola in 1925 and helped engineer Gulf Power’s
startup, and eventually became its president and chairman of its board. He
dedicated his life not only to his work and his family, but to the people
in and around Pensacola. He was president of the Pensacola Area Chamber of
Commerce, United Way of Escambia County and Pensacola Exchange Club. He
was honored for his service to Baptist Hospital, helped save part of
Pensacola Beach from development, and was named 1983 Man of the Year for
his dedication to the community by the Pensacola Downtown Kiwanis Club.

Mr. Pulley, “Bob” to many of his friends, was an avid amateur photographer
and outdoorsman.

Mrs. Pulley was a former antiques dealer whose passions included her doll
and jewelry collections, fine clothing, and expertly hooking rugs.

Frances N. Pulley, who inherited antiques from the Nolan side of the
family, worked most of her life for Fisher-Brown. Her interests included
genealogy and creating pottery.

Frances C. Pulley was honored for her musical ability upon her graduation
from Pensacola High, and went on to coach state championship teams during
her three decades as a secondary school physical education teacher in
Michigan. She received her bachelor’s degree from Florida State, her
master’s from Smith College and her doctorate, in philosophy, from
Southern Mississippi. She was a gourmet cook who collected a wide variety
of cookbooks, as well as thousands of other books, ranging from Harry
Potter and James Patterson to ancient history and existentialism.

Empire Antiques Services is proud to have been chosen to
sell the estate of Robert L. Pulley.

Mr. Pulley was president of Gulf
Power in the 1960s and a president of the Pensacola Chamber of Commerce.
This estate sale will be one of the largest conducted in the Florida
Panhandle in recent history.

This very unique sale will not only include the estate of Mr. and Mrs. R.
L. and Rose C. Pulley, but the estate of Frances C. Pulley. Robert Pulley
was an avid outdoorsman and amateur photographer. Rose Pulley was a
lifelong collector and former dealer of antiques. Frances moved in
the mid-’90s to the Pulley family home from Michigan, where she had
coached and taught for 30
years. Because of her expertise in sport and physical education, she was
chosen to participate in the 1966 International Olympic Academy meetings
in Olympia, Greece. Frances Pulley was one a very select group of educators chosen to
participate in an annual meeting of the International Olympic Academy, to
discuss the Olympic movement and international cooperation.

When Frances inherited the Pulley family home, it was already jammed with
antique furniture, collectibles, bric-a-brac, and Rose Pulley’s vast doll
collection. Frances, the ultimate packrat, filled every remaining nook and
cranny in the house, barn and greenhouse, and then added a storage room to
accommodate all her collectibles, knick-knacks and thousands of books.
